Point Pleasant Beach

Yesterday we took Ryan's mom and dad to Point Pleasant beach. We grabbed some KFC for lunch and had fun playing in the sand. The water was still really cold but Ryan and his dad went swimming anyways. They both had fun riding the waves and I had fun burying Ryan in the sand!

Vacation - Part Three

Day 5: We drove up north to Washingtonville, New York for a tour and tasting at Brotherhood Winery, America's oldest winery. Brotherhood was established in 1839 and had some fascinating things to see in their underground cellars. Oh, and their wine tasted really good too! We all ended up buying some to bring home!

Day 6: Alan, Melissa, and Ethan went to Connecticut for the day to see Melissa's mom.

Day 7: Our last official day of vacation. We drove back up north to Bear Mountain State Park. We did a little more hiking and also tried to get some family pictures.

Our grand finale was Friday night. Dinner at our favorite restaurant - Cuban Pete's - to celebrate KuoHua and Melissa's birthday. KuoHua's birthday was today and Melissa's 30th birthday is next week! Here's a couple pictures of their cake and at the restaurant.

The week went WAY TOO FAST and unfortunately Alan and Melissa had to go back to Chicago. I guess they had to go back to work or something... =) But we had such a great time and Ethan and Carson LOVED each other's company. We are also very fortunate to get to spend another month and a half with Ryan's parents so there will be many more pictures and posts to come! Good night!

Vacation - Part Two

Day 3: On Monday, we decided to bring in the Memorial Day by going to Liberty State Park to see the Statue of Liberty. We grabbed some Subway sandwiches on the way there, had a picnic, played with whistles and frisbees, and enjoyed every minute of the nice summer day!

Day 4: We spent the day in New York City! We had dim sum at Jing Fong, stopped at the Fay Da bakery for some Chinese rolls, then onto Times Square, including some shopping at Toys R Us. After lunch we took a tour inside the USS Intrepid.

We even got to pop a squat in the middle of Broadway!!! In May they closed Broadway to vehicle traffic for five blocks at Times Square, turning part of the "Crossroads of the World" into a pedestrian mall of throbbing lights, animated billboards and towering skyscrapers. The city believes the move will reduce pollution, cut down on pedestrian accidents and increase the flow of traffic. They even set out a bunch of chairs for people to sit on...so we had to get a picture! =)

After we finished up on Times Square, we headed down the road to take a tour of the USS Intrepid. I'm not usually into that sort of thing, but I must admit it was very cool. Here's a few pictures from the Intrepid.

Vacation - Part One

What a busy, busy week this was!!! Ryan took a week of vacation and the whole Chan family was reunited once again. His parents flew in from China at the end of April so they along with Ryan's brother, Melissa and Ethan drove from Chicago to New Jersey to visit us for a week! Here are some highlights from our week.

Day 1: Our vacation started off very crappy at first (literally)!!! We all woke up on Saturday morning to the fresh aroma of septic gases. Our septic tank was overflowing in the basement. After a few phone calls, and Ryan and his dad getting their hands (very) dirty, it was fixed. Lesson learned...NEVER flush wipes down the toilet! They eventually got all built up and clogged up the system.

After that mess was cleaned up we headed to the Delaware Water Gap. The boys played in the water and then we did a little hiking. While hiking, we came across this beautiful water fall...the perfect place to take some pictures!

Day 2: On Sunday, we stayed closer to home. We first stopped at High Point State Park, the highest point in the state of New Jersey. The view from High Point Monument, at 1,803 feet above sea level, is a spectacular panorama of rich farmland and forest, soft hills and lush valleys in three states.

Next we headed to Space Farms so Carson and Ethan could feed the animals.

We ended the day by going fishing in the quarry by our house. The fish were biting like crazy! They loved the canned corn that we baited the hooks with. (Thanks for the tip Alan! =)

Hiking @ High Point State Park

This morning we went hiking! Over the (BIG) hills and through the woods we went. It was such a nice day. Couldn't have asked for better weather. We hiked for 2 1/2 hours and it was great taking in the fresh air and seeing all the beautiful views that High Point has to offer. I was a little nervous taking Carson on a long hike but he did great. He really enjoyed climbing over the rocks, playing with sticks and even peeing in the woods for the first time...or as he kept repeating..."pee pee on tree". By the time we got home, he was more than ready for a nice long nap! =)
